Mental Health Wellness for Healthcare Practioners

Angela is a Family Physician with many years experience of working in the Public Health Care sector as well as teaching in the under and post graduate space. She is also trained as an Integral Coach and has brought these skills into her practice as a clinician, a leader and an educator. Her interest lies in creating opportunities for clinician leadership development as well as creating spaces for healthcare professionals to pro-actively manage their mental health.

Her discussion will cover why it is so important for healthcare workers to take care of themselves and addresses what makes it so difficult for healthcare workers to recognize their own health needs and ask for assistance. What are the risks for health organizations,  practitioners and patients if we do not pay attention to the wellness needs of health workers.

Her coaching approach focusses on building self awareness as the basic building block through which her clients are able to shift the way they engage with their own needs, their teams and the organizations they work for to achieve better health outcomes for themselves as well as for their patients.

The intended purpose of the session is for healthcare workers and managers to engage with the possibility of re-engineering a health system which empowers both patients and healthcare practitioners to take care of themselves.
